Walk & Talk Counselling

Walking Side by Side in Nature

Walk and talk counselling offers the same supportive, confidential space as traditional therapy, but outdoors, walking side by side rather than sitting face to face.

Movement and being in nature can help release tension, support mood, and allow thoughts and feelings to flow more freely. Noticing changes in the seasons, the colours of the trees, birdsong, or the texture of the path beneath your feet can help anchor you in the present moment, and provide gentle reminders of growth, change and resilience.

"Some people find it easier to talk while walking, feeling less self-conscious and more connected to themselves."

Walking can make it easier to access deeper emotions. The physical activity subtly engages the right hemisphere of the brain, the part linked to intuition, creativity and emotional processing. Some people find it easier to talk while walking, feeling less self-conscious and more connected to themselves.

Walking alongside someone in a natural setting can create a unique sense of freedom, safety and connection, helping you explore your experiences in a different way to traditional counselling.

Walk and talk can be particularly helpful if sitting still feels uncomfortable, if you like being outdoors, or if you enjoy moving while reflecting. Some people simply find nature a more natural setting for difficult conversations than a room.

It's also a good option for those who want to combine physical movement with emotional work, research consistently shows that exercise supports mood and mental wellbeing alongside talking therapy.
