Creative Counselling in West Sussex

"What if exploring your feelings didn't always have to start with words?"

Alongside talking therapy, I offer the option to explore using simple creative materials, with no artistic ability needed and no judgement about what you make.

How It Works

What Is Creative Counselling?

Alongside talking therapy, I sometimes invite clients to explore creative ways of expressing themselves, such as drawing, painting or working with simple materials like clay. Creative expression can help us access thoughts and feelings that are often difficult to put into words.

When we engage in creative activities, we begin to connect with parts of the brain linked to emotion, memory and imagination. This can allow deeper experiences to gently come into awareness in a way that conversation alone sometimes cannot.

This isn't about producing something artistic or getting it right. There is absolutely no judgement about what you create. The focus is on the process, not the end result.

"The most powerful insights come when we allow ourselves to create, not perform."

Creative counselling doesn't replace talking, it sits alongside it. In a session, I might invite you to pick up some coloured pens, work with clay, or simply draw or paint while we talk. There's no structure, no brief, no right or wrong way to do it.

Sometimes what emerges through making something is a feeling or memory that has been difficult to reach through words alone. Sometimes it simply allows you to slow down, get out of your head, and connect with a different part of yourself.

For many people, creative exploration also reconnects them with their inner child, the part of us that once expressed curiosity and imagination freely through play. Approaching things this way can help us understand ourselves more fully and express feelings that may have been held inside for a long time.

"When we allow ourselves to play, experiment or even get a little messy, something deeper begins to emerge."

Who It's For

Is Creative Counselling for You?

Creative counselling is optional. We are all unique and I work intuitively responding to what I believe may help you. If appropriate I may offer you the opportunity to explore your feelings in a different way. No artistic ability is required — in fact it’s the opposite — it’s all about the process and what the experience means to you.

It can be particularly helpful for those who feel they have reached the limits of talk-based approaches, or who want to work with both the thinking and feeling parts of themselves at the same time.

Creativity has always been an important part of my life. Over the years I've studied painting, ceramics and sculpture, and I value the role that creative expression can play in emotional processing.

I also work holistically, with an interest in how experiences can be held in the body. Where appropriate, I may draw on somatic awareness or gentle movement alongside creative interventions, supporting connection to the emotional, intuitive side of ourselves.
